We have just launched a new video series on Youtube – the 17Percent Guides to Careers in the Theatre. This will take the form of interviews with people working in the theatre, and offer advice and tips to students and those wishing to work in the business.
The first in the series is an interview with Fiona Watt, who has been a scenographer/theatre designer for the past twenty years. Her theatre credits include work for the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh; Sherman Cymru, Cardiff; Nottingham Playhouse; Lyric Belfast; Bolton Octagon; the Tron, Glasgow; and Palace Theatre, Watford. Her opera credits include work for the Hebrides Ensemble and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Fiona talks about the emerging use of alternative spaces in performance and gives advice on how to get into theatre design, and shares some of the things she loves about her job.
