Chelmsford Fling and Writer in residence, Aberdeen

Chelmsford Fling

Do you have what it takes to inspire and delight an adult audience? Could you make their heads turn or their hearts race? Might you cause their creative juices to flow or make their mature minds simply boggle?! Do you recognise the serious need for play?

If you’re interested in getting involved then please request a proposal form from events@chelmsford.gov.uk and send it back asap, but definitely by Friday 7th May.

The Fling was piloted in 2008 and sold out in 2009 and seeks to combine the winning elements of two of Essex’s annually successful events; the quirkiness of ESSEXstreetdiversions and the playfulness of The 3foot People Festival will continue to be combined to develop this exciting festival for the summer of 2010.

A cast of professional and amateur performers will share numerous mini stages and tents in a park in Chelmsford, Essex – just 25 minutes by direct train from Stratford.

Things to do at The Fling may include music, dancing, short films, theatre, silent disco, dressing-up, gambling (for charity!), cheeky cabaret, workshops, poetry, storytelling, massage, side shows and more – all aimed at those aged over 18. once on site, all of these activities are free.

The secure event site should be decorated with intriguing sculptures, adornments and interventions – once we discover those able to make it all happen again in 2010!

Playful naughtiness, mayhem and wonder will abound and minds will be teased with imaginative possibilities… With your help, we aim to have the audience’s senses explored, seduced and surprised.

Writer in Residence, Aberdeen City Council

Leafing the Green is a two year project centred on a writer in residence. The writer will be commissioned to:

-generate their own new body of work (50% of the residency)

-generate creative writing activity with schools and their communities using the historic urban environment as a stimulus for learning and creativity

Leafing the Green brings together a range of partners with parallel agendas in the areas of culture, education and heritage conservation; it forms the focal point of public engagement for The Green Townscape Heritage Initiative in Aberdeen and simultaneously targets participatory activity on one of the city’s most socially deprived neighbourhoods.

We are seeking a professional, practising writer with a proven track record of high quality work and with an interest in developing their socially engaged practice.

The residency will be for 2 years duration, based on an average of 37 hours per week. Some weekend/evening work will be required.

For an information pack on the project and how to apply contact Heather Evans on 01224 346361 or hevans@aberdeencity.gov.uk.

Closing date: 5.00pm, Thursday 20 May 2010

Interviews: Thursday 24 June 2010

Projected residency start date: 1 September 2010

Fee: £25,000 per annum (all inclusive fee offered as a freelance contract)

Leafing the Green is supported by The Green Townscape Heritage Initiative and the Creative Scotland Innovation Fund and the National Lottery through the Scottish Arts Council’s Partners Fund
