NALD networking day – Royal Festival Hall, 16 July 2009

Attended National Association for Literature Development (NALD) networking event on Internationalism, Entrepreneurship and Excellence.

Morning session was on coaching skills (really relevant actually), followed by a stimulating afternoon of discussion about possibilities for international collaboration, with contributions from writers, literature development professionals and a live intervention from Stacy Makishi featuring ping pong balls and a chocolate cake!

But what exactly is ‘literature development’? I didn’t really know till this afternoon – but it encompasses what a lot of playwrights do in addition to their playwriting – that is to develop other writers through teaching, tutoring and leading writing groups etc. An organisation well worth checking out if your other job involves developing other writers.
